February Post Office Project
The art of writing a real, personal letter. Few can lay claim to participating within this medium in modern times. The Post Office Project is designed to bring back this lost art, and supply happiness and encouragement for those willing to send and receive letters. For the month of February, I ask you to both receive and offer the jubilation that comes from writing by reaching out to Jessica, a girl who’s going through a heavy struggle.
Jessica deals with a hindering depression. With each day she self-harms, or cuts herself, in seclusion, to respond to this depression. ”Each day hurts” and for, for her, “years pass within seconds.” She feels old and unworthy of her life, despite not even having reached the age of twenty. This is a secret she keeps to herself, not even revealing to close friends.
I believe that letters, and the stories they share, can help Jessica in her ordeal. I ask you to write to Jessica; share your stories, offer happiness and good spirit, help her with your words. Be encouraging! Write what you believe is fitting, even if it’s just a few words. With your help, I believe we can give Jessica the relief she desires; a relief she needs.
If you’re willing to write to Jessica, please submit your letter by mailing it to
Dear Meat
12394 Charles St.
La Plata, MD 20646
and write “Jessica” on the back of the envelope submitted. For those who wish to place a return address, please write it within the letter itself or inside the envelope, as opposed to its front.
Letter submissions will be accepted until March 1st, 2012. On this date, the letters will be sealed together within a package and mailed to Jessica. Letters received after March 1st will be posted to the Dear Meat website.
Thank you for reading, and please encourage, friends, family, acquaintances, and whoever else you believe could help to write in—a single letter can make a tremendous difference.
Happy writing,
Matt
